Wilkins Takes the Megabucks - Monday, September 22, 2008

We had a beautiful fall weekend for the Megabucks event and the fish were in a cooperative mood. Temperatures were in the mid-fifties at the start of the day but quickly warmed to the mid-seventies. Winds were quite moderate for this time of year making for a very enjoyable weekend of fishing.

Tom Wilkins pulled out the win with a total bag of 28.26 pounds. Tom had the big bass on Day 2, a fish of 5.13 pounds, and also had the second big one on Day 1. Close behind, in second place, was Durand Peterson, who had a total bag of 27.47 pounds. Durand had the big bass on Day 1 with a 4.59 pound largemouth. In third place was Dave Christopher. Dave was the first day leader but came up slightly  short on Lake Oscar and brought in a total bag of 27.22 pounds for the event.

The Mega-bucks marks the end of our season. We will have a meeting in January to plan the 2009 year. Hope to see everyone there.

Tom Wilkins Lands Win on Pomme de Terre - Tuesday, August 05, 2008

Four big fish were enough for Tom Wilkins to take the win on Pomme de Terre. His four fish weighed 15.58 pounds and included the big fish, a 5.10 pound toad. Bill Digidio had the fish to boost Tom & Bill's team weight to almost 20 pounds.

The fishing proved to be very difficult, with only four limits coming to the scale. The weather was cool and cloudy - conditions that one would expect to result in a good bite.

With four of the draw tournaments out of the way, Tom Wilkins holds a narrow lead in the Angler of the Year race. The next event is on Sunday, August 10.

It turned out to be a great day for fishing with light winds and cool, cloudy weather. Most were expecting small bags, but that did not prove to be the case as there were numerous three pound plus fish brought to the scales. The next event is on August 3. read more ...

Kriese wins Lake Mina Draw Tournament - Thursday, June 12, 2008

The Lake Mina draw tournament turned out to be a dinkfest. While the fish were small, someone always manages to find some that are a little bigger. Doug Kriese pulled in a five fish bag that weighed 8.83 pounds - not big, but big enough for the win. Ron McNutt and Bob Hefti won the team event with 9.71 pounds and Dylan Kriese had the big fish - a 3.13 pound giant.

It was a great day to be fishing. The temperatures warmed into the 70's for one of the few times this year and winds were light. Water temperature was in the low 60's. It appears that the fish were right around the spawn period, but the bigger females had not moved up yet.

No one went out on Lake Mina fun fishing after the tournament. It probably won't make anyone's favorite lake list. At least we won't have to be back for at least two years! The next draw tournament is June 29.  read more ...
