North Country Bassin' will hold two open bass tournaments for the 2012 season. One will be a team tournament and the other will be an individual event. The entry fee for both tournaments is $100 per boat plus $10 for big bass.

The first tournament will be the team tournament to be held on Pelican Lake at Ashby, MN on June 23rd. Take-off and weigh-in will be held at the Ashby Resort. Tournament hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

The individual tournament will be held on Lake Minnewaska on July 21st. Take-off and weigh-in will be held at the Water's Edge with a 6:00 AM take-off and a 2:00 PM weigh-in.

It was a beautiful day on Lake Minnewaska for the North Country Bassin' Individual open. Light winds, sunshine and comfortable temperatures made for a great day of fishing.

Keith Bielke was able to run away with the tournament. His 19.20 bag of largemouth bass, which included the 4.71 pound big fish of the day, was more than three pounds better than the second place finisher, Jim Stargel. Jim had 16.05 pounds in his bag that include four smallmouth. In third place was Wayne Ek with 15.64 pounds.

Winds played a big factor in the tournament that was held on Lake Minnewaska on August 28th. Sunny, hot, humid weather and winds gusting over 30 mph kept many anglers off their preferred spots and had them scrambling to find fish.

Dean Peterson was able to bring in a mixed bag of smallmouth and largemouth bass that weighed 14.16 pounds to take the first place prize. He was followed by Jim Stargel in second with 13.97 pounds and Clarence Rasmussen in third with 13.11 pounds. Jeff Schnitzler brought in the big fish of the day, a 4.16 pound smallmouth.

There were twenty anglers fishing the tournament. About half the bass weighed in were smallmouth.

Weather turned out to be a significant factor with temperatures staying in the 40's throughout the day with strong East winds of over 20 mph. The water temperature dropped seven or eight degrees and it seemed to affect the fish.

Dan Thorstad brought in the only bag over 15 pounds - a 16.75 sack that was good for first place. Dave Christopher brought in 14.87 pounds for second and Durand Peterson came in third with a 13.44 pound bag. Mike Peterson had big bass with a 4.64 pound largemouth.
