Presentation
You can't catch fish if you can't find them. But what do you do when you find them and still can't catch them. Refine your presentation! Experiment!
Colors for clear water? Try white, blue, silver and similar natural colors. For stained water, start with chartreuse, orange, green, yellow. For muddy water or very low light conditions, black, brown, purple would be a good starting point.
Size. Try to match the available forage. For example, most minnows are generally larger in the spring, because the young have not hatched or are very small. By fall, the small minnows have grown, but on average, the available minnows are relatively small. At night or in muddy water, try larger baits.
Speed can also be critical. High speeds can create reaction strikes. However, if fish are negative, they won't chase anything and fishing very slow moving presentations and getting it right in front of the fish is very important.
